Pakistani Prime 500,000 Chromebooks

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has today officially launched this highly anticipated scheme, under which 500,000 students from schools and madrasas across Pakistan will be provided with Chromebooks and internet access.

The Government of Pakistan has announced that the inauguration ceremony for this project is being held in Islamabad, which the Prime Minister will attend and where he will also deliver an address. The government has described this initiative as the next step following the phase in which laptops were provided to hundreds of thousands of students on the basis of merit.

Who will receive Chromebooks?

The ‘Prime Minister’s Youth Chromebook Scheme’ is being implemented by the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training in collaboration with the ‘Prime Minister’s Youth Programme’.

According to officials, 500,000 refurbished Chromebooks will be distributed over a three-year period to ninth-grade students who have achieved high marks.

Students will be ranked based on their SSC-I results, which will be verified by the Inter Boards Coordination Commission (IBCC); a minimum score of 50 percent is required for eligibility.

Students from government schools, private schools supported by provincial education foundations, and registered madrasas are all eligible. You can read our guide on how to apply for the PM Youth Chromebook Scheme.

In each province, four out of every five devices will be given to school students, and one to students of a madrasa. Within the quota allocated for school students, 70 percent is for science students and 30 percent for arts students.
